Basil Oil

Although this recipe centers around basil oil, a lot of the principles remain the same, whether you're making mint, lemon, grapefruit, or sage oils. This is just a basic recipe that anyone can make at home.

Ingredients:


 

  • 8-10 large bunches of basil leaves, picked from the stems.

  • 3 cups neutral oil, such as grapeseed or canola.

Instructions:


 

1. Bring a pot of water to boil.

2. Add your basil to the water, cook for 45 seconds.

3. Immediately place in an ice water bath.

4. Remove basil from water, squeezing out all water, so that the basil is as dry as possible.

5. To a blender add the neutral oil and blanched basil.

6. Blend on high for 7-8 minutes, or until the blender has started feeling warm.

7. Strain basil oil through a fine cheesecloth make sure not to push any of the basil leaves through the holes. You should be left with a bright green basil oil. Enjoy!
